FUNDACION PUBLICA GALLEGA CENTRO TECNOLOGICO DE SUPERCOMPUTACION DE GALICIA (CESGA)
CESGA was founded in 1993 to promote and provide supercomputing facilities to regional and national researchers and currently provides more than 325 TFlops of computing capacity, which is updated continuously to solve the demands of its users. CESGA is certified by ISO 9001 for the provision of services related to computing and communication services. CESGA`s strategic plan includes research activities in the computing technologies and health and has participated in approximately 200 research projects in 25 years, many of them in European Research Programs, mainly in the field of technological development and infrastructure. On the academic side, CESGA provides a large set of services for the universities and research centres, from computing capacity to very large storage (temporal and permanent). At European level, CESGA participates in the PRACE initiative and EGI (now EOSC). Within the development area, CESGA has experts in optimisation and parallelisation of applications, development of new algorithms (as parallel optimisers), modelling using Machine Learning techniques, or development of specific solutions to fit special requirements (as the usual operational services for weather and oceanic forecasting using shared resources, being one of the few centres which provides such a service). CESGA has experience in training AI algorithms with machine learning for various fields of application. Besides CESGA has big storage resources, serving different repositories of data. Finally, CESGA has experience in health-related projects, based on Monte Carlo simulation and serving data repositories for images and DICOM files.
Role in the project
Dr. Carlos MouriƱo is the Data Manager of the project. CESAG`s participation in the project is related to the computational support for training the machine learning algorithms; and serving and maintaining the data repository (WP5). They also collaborate in education and training activities (WP6) offering their teaching expertise in machine learning courses. Finally, CESGA collaborates in dissemination activities (WP7).
SERVIZO GALEGO DE SAUDE (SERGAS)
SERGAS, the Galician healthcare service, is an autonomous administrative body responsible for the management and provision of public health services in the National Health Care system in the Autonomous Community of Galicia. The healthcare network consists of 14 Hospitals and Hospital trusts, and more than 490 primary care centres.
SERGAS is structured around biomedical research centres, as the Galicia Sur Health Research Institute (IISGS), a space for multidisciplinary research in Biomedicine, bringing together the clinical research groups from the Health Areas of the South of Galicia (SERGAS and Galicia Sur Biomedical Foundation) and the biotech groups of the University of Vigo, with the aim of promoting translational research and innovation and thus ensure the effective application of research results in terms of benefits for the health of citizens. The IISGS participated in more than 80 national and international research projects in the last years, and in 2016 published more of 290 scientific papers.
With the aim of executing some health services, SERGAS created GALARIA, an autonomous public company. GALARIA provides high-tech assistance services and it is empowered to develop, execute and exploit sanitary infrastructures promoted by the Autonomous Community of Galicia. GALARIA is acting as link third.
Role in the project
As a clinical organisation, the role of SERGAS will be to collect data from patients and personnel to define protocols to optimise dose. The core group is the department of Medical Physics and Radiological Protection. SERGAS collaborates in the staff dose and risk assessment in each related clinical procedure and in the dissemination of the recommendations developed by the project.
